On the opening weekend of college football, there are several games that pique my interest.  Here are my favourite selections:

·        Michigan (-12) over Western Michigan – There will be over 103,000 fans in attendance at Ann Arbor, Michigan to see the Wolverines of Michigan open the season against a marginal opponent.  Coach Rich Rodriquez has promised that all three quarterbacks will play, so there will be no letdown once the Wolverines are in front.  Look for a big win for Michigan.  Final score:  Michigan 35 – Western Michigan 7.  This is worth $100.

·        Notre Dame (1-14) over Nevada – There is a new sense of excitement at South Bend as Notre Dame begins its new season, the 5^h under head coach Charlie Weis, with eager anticipation.  New coaches, Frank Verducci and Tony Alford, have been hired to revamp the Irish enemic running game.  Look for the Irish to send their fans home happy as they roll to a convincing win over Nevada.  Final score:  Notre Dame 31 – Nevada 13.  This is worth a wager of $100.

·        Washington (+16) over Louisiana State University – Even though LSU is regarded as a Top 10 team, it’s always tough going into Husky Stadium early in the season.  This is my upset special as Quarterback Jake Locker will lead the huskies of Washington to a victory over LSU.  Final score:  Washington 24 – LSU 23

The U.S. Tennis Open appears to be Roger Federer’s playground in Flushing Meadows this week, but a smart online sportsbook investor would not wager on his repeat because of the unfavourable odds.  A wager on Andy Roddick to win the Championship would reap nice rewards, if he can pull it off.  Roddick has the big serve, always an advantage at the U.S. Open, and he is overdue to win this title.
