The latest online gambling news has nothing to do with U.S. attempts to gain its legalization. That is old hat and stale online gambling news. While the names of faces of its proponents change, the online gambling news remains the same – no substantive progress to report. So, until there is fresh breaking online gambling news on the subject of the legalization of online gambling in the United States, we are going to turn our attention to other matters.
The biggest online gambling news that we have heard in a while is the fact that mega-social network giant, Facebook, has just recently altered its advertising policies. The most powerful social network in the world will now allow online casino advertising on its site. This has tremendous upsides for online casino industry which has been hurt in recent months with restrictive rulings in various countries throughout the world.
Facebook will now permit online poker sites, online casino websites, sports wagering websites, lotteries and other gambling organizations to advertise on Facebook and, in a specific way, target groups and individual players who might have an affinity to gamble online. This is an obvious attempt by Facebook to try to reach out to a new audience of varied industries in a way that they can earn even additional revenues through new advertising streams.
However, as with all things, Facebook will be laying down some rules to follow and, if the online casinos want to play in the Facebook ball park, they better heed the guidelines. The most important of all the regulations laid down by Facebook is that local laws must be followed in the area that the online casino is headquartered, and that authorization and consent must be approved by the management of Facebook before any online casino can advertise on the social network site.
The immediate exception to the rule is the United States. While online casinos in the United States may advertise on Facebook, players from the U.S. are still prohibited from participating. As stated in the statement released by Facebook, U.S. ads will be shown to potential consumers in the countries, such as England, in which Facebook is allowing online gambling advertisements.
In addition, Facebook will make a minimum of $30,000 on each advertiser. Facebook concludes that this is a bargain for the online gambling industry because Facebook can reach over 750 million people through its social network.
