Stats don’t lie!  If you sell more of the same product than I do, then you’re a better salesman, all things being equal.   The Las Vegas casinos have found out that figures don’t lie.  Betting on the Super Bowl in Las Vegas decreased over the previous year, as reported by the 176 land casinos in Vegas that offer sportsbook gambling.

Now, you can make an argument that the economy is in such a state of disarray that people are not as willing to gamble their hard earned money, not even on the biggest sporting event of the year.  The other explanation is that people have found a better way in which to conduct their wagering. 

Las Vegas casinos have reported an 11.5% decrease in total handle on the Super Bowl from the year before.  The television audience for the game was the highest ever recorded, reaching an estimated 98.7 million people who watched the game, up 1.2 million from last year.  So, the interest in the game was at an all-time high, but the betting on the game was down significantly in Vegas.  Well, where did it go?

The gamblers wagered on the 2209 Super Bowl online in droves.  Massive numbers have been reported on the online gambling sites during this year’s Super Bowl, and there are indications that this precedent has now been set.  Online gambling records were established this year without the benefit of gamblers from the . 

Sports betting investors have come to the realization that online sportsbook gambling is the way to go.  Reports indicate that millions of proposition bets were placed as the game was being played.  The advantages of wagering online came to fruition with the Super Bowl.  One website recorded almost 4 million bets on the Super Bowl in a 36 hour period.

Don’t cry for the Las Vegas casinos!  The fact that the Arizona Cardinals lost the game but covered the 7 point spread on the final score propelled the Las Vegas casinos to manage an 8.2 winning margin, and that translated into a significant profit margin for the land casinos, despite the decrease in the total handle.

If U.S. Congress can overturn the legislation prohibiting its citizens from participating in off-shore Internet gambling, then the skies are the limit for online gambling on sports.  With all countries looking to amp up their tax bases, it seems like the perfect time to afford the citizens of the their right to gamble if they so desire.
