The medium of television has given millions of viewers the opportunity to witness history in the making.  We, indeed, are a blessed generation to have had the good fortune to watch the events that shape the history and culture of our civilization unfold right before our very eyes.  Who can ever forget some of the most memorable television events of the 20^th Century:  The walk on the moon in 1969; the shooting of J.F.K. assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, in Dallas, Texas , in 1963; the demolition of the Berlin Wall; and the breathtaking Olympics presentation from Beijing, , in 2008? 

Television has most assuredly played a major role in the way people acquire information about the goings-on in the world.  Television has also played a crucial part in our leisure time activities, especially in the telecasts of sporting events.  Whether it’s the World Soccer Cup Championships from or Poker tournaments from , the medium of T.V. is on hand to bring us all the action.

In fact, gambling and television appear to be joined at the hip as we proceed toward the end of the first decade of the 21 Century.  Gambling is an activity that has not gone unnoticed by T.V. executives around the world.  All we have to do is look at the present state of economic affairs in the world today to see the effects of gambling and risk taking. 

Watching Poker tournaments on T.V. is a pleasant diversion for the populace in the four corners of the world, whose fortunes are disintegrating in front of their noses, due to the unscrupulous and risky choices made by a few immoral carpetbaggers – and these individuals are the ones who were so adamant about sermonizing on the evils of gambling!   

The Hypocrisy of Advertising

It’s simply amazing that the majority of politicians in the could prohibit their citizens from participating in online gambling.  Talk about a bunch of hypocrites – they allegedly did so because they feared that online gambling would turn Americans into a nation of “inveterate gamblers.”

Ha! Ha!  It was alright for some of these politicians to back and actually benefit from two Federally subsidized mortgage companies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, whose mission was to provide sub-prime mortgages to people who were ill-prepared and incapable of ever repaying them.  Television advertising is overwhelmed with advertisements from gambling casinos and even free online poker play sites.  How ironic is this!  Television programming is supported by the industry that the politicians are trying to withhold from the American people.

Yet, there are T.V. ads by the bushel advertising state lotteries and other games of chance supported by the states in order to add more funds to their coffers.  Gambling supports television programming, yet the politicians continue to play a holier-than-thou role when it comes to online gambling and the American people.  You can watch Poker tournaments on T.V. with advertisements by state lotteries and casinos, but you can’t engage in online gambling from the the United States!  

US citizens can watch Poker tournaments on T.V.  They should be permitted to participate in online Poker game activity with millions of others around the world.
