Sports Betting

Guru’s Gallery

Sports betting is based on the prediction of a sports result through a wager on the outcome of the event. A sport betting event can range from a baseball game to a boxing match. Sports betting is conducted through online sportsbook parlours which list all available events and their current odds and lines.

While there maybe some parameters regarding the minimum and maximum amount of money that can be wagered on sports bets, online betting is the most convenient venue in which to place a sports bet. A sport bet is a great way to supplement your income, and online sportsbook wagering is the best means to the end.

The Onlinegambling.co.uk Sports Guru has built up a solid reputation over the years as a top-notch prognosticator of sporting events, especially major sports and keynote sporting events. In 2009, the Guru earned close to $5,000 in sports betting on college football alone!

There are several online betting sites that are excellent in presentation, customer service and payouts. These will be highlighted from time to time on the best online casino review page at Onlinegambling.co.uk. This column will also contain an educational component for sports betting investors in order to make the sports betting public fully aware of the varieties of sports bets available on online sportsbook sites.

Our column will be devoted to sport betting on events on which the Guru can present keen insight and observation, and offer a respected opinion. All theoretical wagers will be in the amount of $100 per sports bet, unless otherwise designated. Feel free to drop an Email to the Guru on any question or comment you might have. By utilizing our professional experience, you may be able to augment your income through sports betting.

NCAA Football Preview- July 27, 2010

The NCAA Football season is rapidly approaching.  The Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk always finds the college football sports odds to be, not only enticing, but very profitable.  The secret to a successful college football sports betting campaign is to focus on a few conferences.  It is advisable that you follow conferences such as the Southeast and the Big Ten and develop a deep working knowledge of the relative strengths and weaknesses of the teams, as opposed to trying to get a handle on 320 NCAA Division I teams.

Despite the fact that the NCAA is looking into agent-player violations in the programs of Alabama, Florida and several others, the 2010 season promises more of the same, as far as the powerhouse programs are concerned.  While you should keep a watchful eye on up and comers, such as TCU and Boise State, the smart money will focus on the teams from the Southeast Conference and the Big Ten Conference for  the finalists in the Championship game.

From the Guru’s standpoint, Ohio State has a great chance to capture the NCAA Championship.  Ohio State’s victory in last year’s Rose Bowl game figures to propel the team to their best season in the last decade.  Their chief rival will be the Gators of Florida, no strangers to championship play.  Without leader extraordinaire, Tim Tebow, the Gators will advance to the title game.  However, they will fall short and lose to the Buckeyes of Ohio State.

The Sports Guru will wager on the futures bets of Ohio State and Florida to advance to the title game, and Ohio State to be crowned National College Football Champions.

 Major League Baseball

There is no doubt that the 2010 season will be seen in historical context as the “Year of the Pitcher.”  There have been a half dozen no hitters already this season, with 10 weeks remaining.  Therefore, those sports betting investors who have wagered on low scoring games have done very well this year.  However, as the dog days of August approach, it would not surprise the Guru if the total number of runs begins to increase.  The Guru will wager on the three New York Yankee-Tampa Bay Rays games this upcoming weekend.  He will bet on each of the weekend games that the final score of each contest will equal or exceed 8 runs per game.

In two weeks, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will review the upcoming NFL   season.  The Sports Guru continues to urge all sports betting investors to make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Miami Heat – Big NBA Free Agent Winner- July 21, 2010

By signing free agent superstars LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, the Miami Heat became the favourite to win the NBA Title. The Heat has immediately been installed as a 2-1 pick to win it all in 2011.  The New York Knicks signed Amare’ Staudemire and the Chicago Bulls signed Carlos Boozer, while the New Jersey Nets and the Los Angeles Clippers came up big-time losers in the free agent wars.

It would not be a big surprise to the Sports Guru of Online Gambling if the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat battle it out for the Eastern Division Championship next spring, and the Guru will put his money where his mouth is by placing a wager on these teams.  The Western Division could come down to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

MLB All-Star Game

The game is an annual tradition of Major League Baseball and it pits the best from the National League against the best from the American League.  The American League has dominated in recent years, but the National League was due to win sometime.  The Sports Guru took the National League and the friendly odds for a virtual $100 and won $200 by virtue of a 3-1 victory.  This victory raised the Guru’s virtual profits for the year up to $2900.

British Open

Sometimes, the best sports wagering investment is the one you don’t make.  The Sports Guru was unclear of how the weather factor could play into the destinies of favourites Tiger Woods and Phil Michelson.  So, instead of throwing away $100 on a pure whim, the Guru decided to sit out the British Open, and he is glad that he did.  The Open became a playground for the lightly-regarded golfers, and the Guru’s decision to sit out the Open paid off.

FIFA World Cup Soccer

Spain took advantage of the loss of Brazil to the Netherlands to secure its first World Cup title, with a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in a game watched by more viewers of a soccer contest than ever before.  The telecast was seen by 64% more viewers in the United States than had watched the Cup final in 2006.

Next week, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will review the upcoming NCAA College Football season.  The Sports Guru continues to urge all sports betting investors to make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

World Cup Soccer Needs to Join the 21st Century- July 7, 2010

There were a number of reasons why the World Cup Soccer Championships that are still going on have been disappointing for some of the elite countries, such as England, France and the United States.  For one thing, the French and English contingents did not play well.  The French team was in total disarray and lost its only two games.  The team from England had a lackluster performance against the United States, and was eliminated by Germany in the round of sixteen.  The U.S. team fell for the second consecutive World Cup to Ghana.

Besides the annoying buzz-like sound of the vuvuzelas at the World Cup games, the most disturbing trend was the bad referee calls.  The calls were not only with poor judgment but they impacted the outcome of World Cup contests.  Especially in the critical England-Germany matchup, a goal scored by England was disallowed by the referee because he never saw it go into the net.

It is time for World Cup Soccer to adopt instant replay so that bad judgments such as this one will not affect the outcome of a contest.  Instant replay is the normal course of business in all other major sports.  Could you imagine the outcome of a horse race decided by the decision of a judge at the finish line depending upon his own line of sight to render a decision?

C’mon soccer!  Join the 21st Century and adopt modern technology to produce rightful outcomes.

Guru Tumbles at Wimbledon and World Cup

The Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk lost both his wagers on Wimbledon Tennis as Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams took the titles.  The surprising loss of Brazil to the Netherlands in World Cup Soccer quarterfinal action cost the Guru also, who found his virtual profits drop to $2700 for the year.

There is nothing new to report at this juncture on the NBA since there are no critical signings as of this article.  We shall reserve commentary until the free agent stars have landed with their respective teams.

MLB All-Star Game

The game is an annual tradition of Major League Baseball and it pits the best from the National League against the best from the American League.  The American League has dominated in recent years, but the National League is due to win sometime.  The Sports Guru will take the National League and the friendly odds for a virtual $100.

In two weeks, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will return to comment on the initial wave of free agent signings in the NBA as well as wrap-up the 2010 FIFA World Cup Championships and the 2010 MLB All-Star contest.  The Sports Guru continues to urge all sports betting investors to make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Sports Guru Notches Another One- June 30, 2010

The Sports Guru of onlinegambling.co.uk has, once again, secured another notch on his Online gambling belt by winning the Johan Santana baseball bet.  The sports bet actually involved a total run score for the game of fewer than 7.5 runs for both teams.  The bad news was that Johan Santana was the losing pitcher in the New York Mets game against the Minnesota Twins.  The good news was that the final score was 6-0, and that the sports bet was another win in the victory column.  The second bet, on Boston hurler Dice K, was a wash because he did not pitch within the time frame that was established.  So, the Guru has raised his virtual sports betting profits to $3,000 for the year.

NBA

The NBA held its annual amateur draft last Thursday evening and, at this juncture, it is difficult to predict the real franchise winners.  This is because so much depends on the free agent signing period which opens up on July 1st.  NBA starts such as Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemare, Joe Johnson and a host of others will be offered contracts by various NBA teams.

When the smoke clears and these stars sign up with the different franchises, we will be better able to look at the new composition of the NBA teams and generate formidable futures bets for next year.  We will wager that Lebron James will sign with the Chicago Bulls (2-1).

Futures

The Onlinegambling.co.uk Sport Guru still has virtual money riding on these selections:

  • 2010 FIFA World Cup – Brazil at 6-1.  It should be noted that Brazil is now listed in online sportsbook parlours as the favourite to win at 7-2 odds.  If you had taken Brazil six weeks ago as the Guru suggested, you would be sitting pretty at 6-1 odds!

  • 2010 Wimbledon Tennis – Andy Roddick and Justine Henin continue to progress through the tournament in the Men’s and Women’s Singles competition respectively.

In two weeks, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will return to comment on the initial wave of free agent signings in the NBA and wrap-up the 2010 FIFA World Cup Championships as well as Wimbledon tennis.  The Sports Guru continues to urge all sports betting investors to make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Guru Sweeps NBA Finals- June 23, 2010

The Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk celebrated Father’s Day in great style thanks to the Los Angeles Lakers.  The Guru had them since October – he had them at 3-1 on a futures bet for the NBA Title, and followed that wager up with a 3-2 wager on them prior to the playoffs.  However, the best bet of them all was $100 on the Lakers winning the title on seven games.

BA-DA-BOOM!  The Lakers rallied in the seventh and deciding game to edge the Boston Celtics 83-79 to repeat as NBA Champs.  Kobe Bryant learned the invaluable lesson of trust in his teammates as Ron Artest, Pao Gasol and Derek Fisher spurred a late rally for the Lakers.  Bryant, of course, was the Series MVP and deservedly so.

The Guru won $850 on the Lakers but dropped $100 on the England soccer team which played to a dispirited tie with the United States. For the year, the Guru shows a virtual profit of $2900.

Brazil looks like a contender for the World Cup, and the Guru has been on them from the gitgo at lucrative odds of 6-1.  In Major League Baseball, this is the time of the year that pitching begins to shine.  The Guru will wager a virtual $100 on the next starts of New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana and Boston’s Dice K that the total runs for the games will be fewer than 7.5.

In the next edition of the Sports Guru, your fearless leader will review the NBA draft and its impact on next year’s standings.  We’ll also look at the free agent market and predict the team that LeBron James will play for.  As for his 2010 sports betting predictions for the first half of the year, the Guru’s sports bets are the tops on the World Wide Web.

2010 Wimbledon

While there is little doubt that Roger Federer and Serena Williams are the favourites in the Men’s and Women’s Divisions respectively at 2-1 odds, your money would be better spent on placing a sport bet on Andy Roddick (10-1) and Justine Henin (6-1).

Next week, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make his sports betting selections based on online sportsbook odds.  We’ll take a look at the World Cup soccer results and Wimbledon action.  Make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Are U.S.-England Best of Friends? – Not This Weekend- June 9, 2010

The International sports community is all abuzz over the 2010 World Soccer Cup Championships to be played in .  The highlight of the early games is a key match between the and .  The sportswriters are hyping the game as an even-steven contest that is up for grabs.  The Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk tells it like it is – the English squad will run the team into the ground.  The team, for one thing, is hampered by injuries that they can not overcome.  Additionally, the U.S has only one world-class player on its team, Landon Donovan.

The Guru believes so strongly in the team from that he will wager 100 pounds that the English squad wins by 2 goals or more.

Belmont Stakes – Guru is Iced

The Belmont Stakes is the longest distance of all of the Triple Crown races.  The Guru placed his money on the favourite, Ice Box, who stunk!  This loyalty resulted in a hypothetical loss of $200, reducing the Guru’s overall profit margin for 2010 to $1974.  Once again we learn a lesson – avoid favourites in long races!

World Cup

continues to be our choice for World Soccer Champ.  Take a good look at the teams from and to do well in the early going, and the squad from to advance at least to the semi-final round of the tournament.

In two weeks, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make more sports betting selections on online sportsbook odds, including commentary on both the NBA and NHL finals.  The Sports Guru continues to urge all sports betting investors to make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Sports Guru Continues to Astound- June 2, 2010

The Sports Guru of onlinegambling.co.uk has, once again, secured hefty profits for his followers as the Los Angeles Lakers advanced for the third consecutive year into the championship round of the NBA playoffs.  The Phoenix Suns proved to be a stubborn opponent, but the Lakers, led by Kobe Bryant, eliminated the Suns in six games.  They are now poised to meet the Boston Celtics for the NBA crown.

The Guru won a futures bet (3-1) as well as a more recent wager (3-2) on the Lakers capturing the Western Division crown.  The Guru dropped a hundred on the Orlando Magic who were feeble against Rajan Rondo and the Boston Celtics for most of their series.  When the smoke cleared, the Guru added $340 to his profits, bringing his total to $2174 for 2010.

The Guru predicts the Lakers will win the NBA Championship in seven games over the Boston Celtics.

The Guru predicts that the Chicago Black Hawks will defeat the Philadelphia Flyers in five games.

Futures

NCAA Basketball

This is a great time to make futures bets on the final four for 2011.  Here are our selections for the cream of the crop of college basketball in 2011:  Duke (8-1); Michigan State (8-10); Kentucky (8-1); and Syracuse (20-1).

NCAA College Football

The college season will be upon us before you know it, and it looks like a wide open field of competitors will be vying for the National Championship.  The two teams that will compete for the National Championship are Ohio State (5-1) and Florida (10-1).

NFL

Some experts predict a repeat of this year’s Super Bowl, the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints.  The Guru knows better – invest on the Dallas Cowboys (10-1) and the New York Jets (15-1).

Other Selections

Belmont Stakes

Put your sports investment money on Ice Box ($50) to Win, Place and Show.  Also, place a $10 Exacta box combining Ice Box with all horses that range between 4-1 and 9-1 odds at post time.

World Cup

Take Brazil at 6-1 to win it all.

In two weeks, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make more sports betting selections on online sportsbook odds.  The Sports Guru continues to urge all sports betting investors to make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Guru’s Futures Are Ready to Blossom- May 27, 2010

The Sports Guru of OnlineGambling.co.uk is on line to rake in a huge profit for himself and his loyal followers on this website.  It is here where the Sports Guru presents his wagering prognostications, and he has garnered profits in each of the last two years on hypothetical wagering.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were incredibly upset by the Montreal Canadians in seven games, costing the Guru $200.  Also, the Cleveland Cavaliers were bounced from the NBA playoffs by the Boston Celtics, resulting in another $100 loss.  These losses reduced the Guru’s overall profit to $634 for the year.

However, the Chicago Black Hawks,  poised to become the Western Division Champs of the NHL, which was a remarkable futures bet at 12-1 odds, accomplished the feat by sweeping the San Jose Sharks in four games, earning the Guru $1200.   Additionally, the Guru has a double bet on the Los Angeles Lakers as Western Division Champs in the NBA.  So, the Guru’s overall picture is quite rosy.

Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes is the longest distance of all of the Triple Crown races.  Ice Box finished strong in the Kentucky Derby after being boxed in for most of the race.  The horse sat out the Preakness Stakes in order to be ready for the Belmont Stakes.  Ice Box is the Guru’s choice for the Belmont takes, and he will wager $50 on Ice Box to Win, Place and Show.  Additionally, the Guru will place a $10 Exactas bet combining Ice Box with all horses that range between 4-1 odds and 9-1 odds at post time.

World Cup

As reported in an earlier entry, our choice remains Brazil for the Championship.  When we placed our wager, Brazil was a 6-1 choice. As we advised you, place a bet on Brazil before the odds drop any further.

Next week, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make more sports betting selections on online sportsbook odds, including both the NBA and NHL finals.  The Sports Guru continues to urge all sports betting investors to make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Guru Poised for Major Wins- May 13, 2010

The Sports Guru of OnlineGambling.co.uk did not fare well in the Kentucky Derby.  Then again, the Derby is usually a crap shoot, and one of the most lucrative races for those who have made the right investments on the race.  The Guru lost $34 on the Kentucky Derby, which reduced his profit total for 2010 to $936.

The Guru has plenty of life in the NBA playoffs with futures bets on the Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers still alive, and a short wager on the Cleveland Cavaliers still going strong.  With regard to the National Hockey League, the Guru has futures wagers on the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Chicago Black Hawks looking very strong, and a short wager on the Penguins for the crown that is still “Stayin’ Alive,” as the Bee Gees used to sing over 30 years ago.

 The Preakness Stakes

Preakness Stakes is run at Pimlico Racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland.  It represents the second leg of professional horse racing’s Triple Crown.  The Guru has found that the favourites have the best chance of winning the Preakness.  It is the shortest of all the three Triple Crown races, and generally will produce the anticipated outcome.  For this reason, it is hard not to bet on Super Saver and the hottest jockey in the world, Borel.

 World Cup

The 2010 World Cup will commence in less than 6 weeks, and it is a great time to grab favourable odds on the team of your choice.  Spain is the pick of most experts, but the Guru has been in the business too long to be influenced by others.  Take Brazil, a 6-1 choice in the best online sportbook parlours.  The online betting parlours will give the up-to-the-minute odds, and they are the most reliable of all wagering sources.

In two weeks, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make more sports betting selections based on online sportsbook odds, including bets on Major League Baseball.  Make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

2010 Run for the Roses- April 27, 2010

So, let’s say that you are a horse racing aficionado.  Obviously, this is one of your favourite weeks of the sporting season because the Kentucky Derby will be run at Churchill Downs on this upcoming Saturday.  If you are a fan of horse racing, then there is a good chance that you have been handicapping this race.  What a disappointment to hear that the pre-race favourite, Eskendereya, has been scratched from the race because of a leg injury.

With a few days left before the “Run for the Roses,” the Sports Guru of OnlineGambling.co.uk will forecast the race as he sees it, and give you some wagering possibilities for online sportsbook betting.

At this point, there may be as many as twenty horses in the race.  Generally, the Sports Guru will look for a horse in a post position of 1 through 5 with odds of 6-1 or less.  As stated in this column last week, the Sports Guru of OnlineGambling.co.uk feels that the winner will be trained by either Bob Baffert or Nick Zito.

Therefore, the Sports Guru sees the Kentucky Derby this way:

·        Looking at Lucky to Win

·        Awesome Act to Place

·        Dublin to Show

·        Ice Box for 4th

The Sports Guru suggests that you box the top three as Exacta bets, and wager $20 for Looking at Lucky to win.  Additionally, make a sports betting wager on these horses in the aforementioned order on a Superfecta online sportsbook bet.

NBA

As the NBA playoffs commence, here are a few online betting gems from the Sports Guru:

·        Cleveland Cavaliers (2-1) and the Los Angeles Lakers (3-2) to advance to the finals, with the Lakers taking the crown once again.

                                             NHL

·        Pittsburg Penguins and the Chicago Black Hawks to advance to the finals, with the Penguins taking the crown once again.

In two weeks, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make more sports betting selections based on online sportsbook odds, including reviews on the Kentucky Derby as well as the NBA and NHL playoffs, and a look at the World Cup of Soccer.  Make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Sports Betting Bonanza- April 20, 2010

The Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk had a very good season on his futures selections for both the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association.  On the ice, Sidney Crosby tallied two goals in the last period of the regular season to run his total to 51 and capture the title of most goals in the regular season, netting a nice $500 for the Guru.  The Chicago Black Hawks narrowly missed having the regular season high point total in the Western Division, losing out to the San Jose Sharks by a single point, which cost the Guru a hypothetical $100.

With regard to the NBA, our over/under for total wins broke even at 5-5, resulting in a $50 loss.  As a result of the futures wagers, the Sports Guru now stands at a profitable $970 for the year.

With regard to Major League Baseball futures wagering, these bets are suggested for over/under for the 2010 season:

·        New York Yankees – 96 ½ (OVER)

·        New York Mets – 83 ½ (UNDER)

·        Minnesota Twins – 87 ½ (OVER)

·        Colorado Rockies – 87 ½ (OVER)

·        Atlanta Braves – 84 ½ (OVER)

·        Baltimore Orioles – 79 ½ (UNDER)

·        Houston Astros – 76 ½ (UNDER)

For individual player futures, we suggest the following:

Robinson Cano, NYY – over .300 batting average (7-1)

Joe Mauer, Minn. – under .325 batting average (Even)

Jerry Manual, NYM manager – to be fired by June 30th (5-1)

With the Kentucky Derby just a few weeks away, it is the right time to project the race.  The horse trainers are always a key element in the process, and so we look at the entries with Baffert and Zito as trainers.  The early online sportsbook odds have Baffert’s entry (Looking at Lucky) at 9-2, while Zito’s entry (Ice Box) stands at the online betting odds of 19-1.

In two weeks, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make more sports betting selections based on online sportsbook odds, including a wager on the Kentucky Derby.  Make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Online Sportsbook Futures Review- April 13, 2010

When Duke defeated Butler for the NCAA Basketball crown, it marked an end to our college sports bets until the fall football season commences.  We might dabble in NCAA baseball, but it’s a long shot.  The Guru lost a hypothetical $180 on March Madness, reducing his overall profit for 2010 to $730.  Since Patrick Harrington was never a factor in this year’s Masters golf event, we lost another $110 to bring our total to $620.

However, as the National Hockey League finishes its regular season, we stand to win money on the Penguins’ Sidney Crosby for most goals and the Chicago Black Hawks for most points in the Western Division.   Once the regular season ends next week and the match-ups are announced, we’ll make our online sportsbook betting selections for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, an international favourite among online betting aficionados.

Our futures sport bet picks in the National Basketball Association look to bring home some serious winnings for us.  With a week to go in the regular season, the Lakers need a few more wins to top 62, a figure that will activate the profit wheel for the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk.  There are several other wagers that will be determined this week and reviewed in next week’s column.  These include over/under wagers on the following teams:  Boston Celtics; Utah Jazz; Chicago Bulls; Philadelphia 76ers; Toronto Raptors; Indiana Pacers; New Jersey Nets; and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Additionally, the Guru will make recommendations for sports betting on the NBA playoffs, depending on the match-ups and the sport betting online odds.  You must remember that you can usually get great odds on futures wagering in online betting parlours, and it is always a good plan to invest some money on futures sports wagering.

Next week, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make more sports betting selections based on online sportsbook odds, including futures bets on Major League Baseball.  Make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Online Sportsbook Wagering Peaks - April 6, 2010

It’s the right time of the year to be a sports investor.  There are no less than 6 major sporting events that will be conducted through the first week in May.  The major sporting events are as follows:

·        Commencement of the 2010 Major League Baseball Season

·        The National Basketball Association Playoffs

·        The National Hockey League Playoffs

·        The Masters Golf Tournament

·        The Kentucky Derby Horse Race

·        The WBA Welterweight Title Fight between Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley

The aforementioned sports betting menu is a sports betting investor’s delight!  As March Madness draws to a close, we’ll wrap up March Madness in next week’s column.  Here, we’ll review Major League Baseball and make some futures wagers on the playoffs and World Series.  Additionally, we’ll add a new feature to our baseball prognostications – total regular season wins.

Masters Golf Tournament

The masters will be held this weekend in Augusta, Georgia, and is considered the granddaddy of all golf tournaments.  It also marks the return of Tiger Woods from a 6 month hiatus from the Professional Golf Tour, due to “other” issues.  If you looked at the proposition bets on the online sportsbook menu regarding Tiger and the Masters, you would probably get a chuckle.  However, the oddsmakers have established Woods as the favorite at 7-2 odds, and who’s to argue with this selection?

As a sports betting investor, the Guru will go with a long-shot to win the Masters.  Irishman Paddy Harrington (15-1) will be wearing the green winner’s coat when the curtain comes down on the 2010 Masters.

Major League Baseball

It seems like only weeks ago that the New York Yankees were feted in downtown New York City with a Wall Street ticker-tape parade, marking their 27th World Series Championship.  Their win resulted in a big payoff for the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk.  However, never one to rest on his laurels, the Guru is now looking into his crystal ball and making his online sportsbook bets for the upcoming 2010 season.

Divisional Winners

In the American League, the Yankees (3-1), Red Sox (6-1), Twins (30-1) and Angels (15-1) will be the playoff representatives.  The Yankees and the Red Sox will battle all season long for the top spot in the East, and the runner-up will be the Wild Card representative in the playoffs.  The Minnesota Twins will take the Central Division honours, while the Angels will capture the Western Division crown.  The Red Sox and Yankees will advance to the divisional finals, and the Yankees will defeat the Red Sox in seven games to win the American League pennant.

In the National League, the two-time defending champs, the Philadelphia Phillies, will look to three-peat.  The playoff representatives will be the Phils (5-1), Cardinals (10-1), Rockies (15-1) and the Dodgers (12-1).  In the East, the Phils will be the runaway winners, while the St. Louis Cardinals will coast to the Central crown.  The West figures to be a dogfight - the Guru predicts the Colorado Rockies will shock the baseball world by defeating the Phillies for the National League Pennant.  The Rockies are an excellent sports bet and will meet the Yankees in the World Series.

World Series

The New York Yankees will capture their 28th World Series title by topping the Rockies in six games, with Mark Textiera named the Series MVP.

Total Regular Season Wins

Philadelphia Phillies (+ 92 ½)

Anaheim Angels (+84 ½)

Colorado Rockies (+84 ½)

Minnesota Twins (+80 ½)

Toronto Blue Jays (-71 ½)

Oakland Athletics (-79 ½)

Tampa Bay Rays (-89 ½)

Houston Astros (-73 ½)

Next week, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will do a wrap-up of the March Madness Tournament and make more sports betting selections, based on online sportsbook odds, including futures bets on the NBA and NHL playoffs.   All sports bets are hypothetical for $100 apiece.  Make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Duke Sparks the Sports Guru’s Comeback- March 30, 2010

The Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk rebounded from losses on the opening weekend to a very successful second weekend of March Madness.  On the first weekend, the Guru suffered through a weekend of unpredictable games.  The results on the first weekend were 6 wins and 15 losses, which resulted in a loss of $1,050 in sports betting.

This past weekend was a different story.  Of our four Final Four futures online sportsbook wagers, only Duke (12-1) materialized as Syracuse was upset by Butler .  The Guru also dropped the wagers on Syracuse and Kansas as the ultimate NCAA Champ.  The sports betting selections over the weekend resulted in a 6-4 ledger.  For the weekend, the Guru had a profit of $830, setting up an environment for aggressive sports bets this weekend.

For many of you, the loss by Kentucky to West Virginia was a great disappointment.  However, Kentucky played tight all night, but do not despair.  Coach Calipari will lose Wall and Cousins to the pros, but will reload with talent for next year, and Kentucky will be back in the mix again.

Final Four (Saturday, April 3)

West Virginia (+4) over Duke – There is no question that Duke has the rebounders and scorers to advance to the Championship game.  Coach K is making his eleventh appearance in the Final Four, and the prognosticators are predicting that Duke will cut the nets down on Monday evening as the National Champions.  The funny thing about this tournament is that the only thing that is predictable is the unpredictability of the games.  Bob Huggins is a veteran coach who has never advanced passed the Final Four round.  This may be the best team he has ever coached.  The Mountaineers of West Virginia have grit and determination, and won’t back down to the boys of Duke.  Look for another sport bet upset, as West Virginia wins the game outright by a score of 66-64.

Michigan State (+2 ½) over Butler – Butler is the Cinderella squad and they’ll be playing at Indianapolis, which is less than ten minutes away from the campus of Butler.  They play smart basketball and will have an overwhelming advantage with the home crowd.  However, Michigan State is coached by Tom Izzo, and all he does is win.  His Spartans advanced to the title game last year, and will do it again this year.  Do yourself a favour and make a healthy sports betting online wager on Michigan State .  The Spartans will advance with a 61-55 victory over Butler .

 Championship Game (Monday, April 5)

The finals will be a match-up of great defensive squads.  Both teams will be playing without their starting point guards, and both squads have grind-it-out offenses.  The game will be won by West Virginia because that is what this tournament is all about – the unpredictable. Take West Virginia (+4) over Michigan State .

Next week, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk will make more sports betting selections based on online sportsbook odds, including futures bets on Major League Baseball.  Make your sports bet intelligently and conservatively, and have fun with your online betting!

Guru Wilts in March Madness Upset Rage- March 23, 2010

Handicappers everywhere are in shock over the results of the first two rounds of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, more commonly known as “March Madness.”  Incredibly, low seeded teams, such as Northern Iowa, Murray State and St Mary’s (CA) defeated highly ranked opponents.  Powerhouses such as Kansas, Villanova, Pittsburgh and Temple fell like flies as upstarts pushed their way into the “Sweet Sixteen” round.

The Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk had his worst handicapping day in over five years, but he recovered somewhat in the second round.  Thankfully for the Guru’s sake, he is alive on a number of futures sports bets, including two teams that have a chance to make the Final Four as well as the eventual National Champion, all at hefty odds.

If you experience a tough outing when sports betting online, the best prescription for you is to continue online betting without major distraction.  In other words, do not double your next series of sports bets – instead, place your online sportsbook wagering at the same or at a lower amount.  You’ll see that if you wager your sport bet at or around the same amount, you will begin to chip away at the losses gradually, and you will not incur an insurmountable deficit.

Guru Handicaps NCAA Rounds One & Two- March 16, 2010

The Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk selected four teams out of almost 350 to make it to the Final 4 of the NCAA Basketball playoffs.  Of course, these selections were made on this site back in November before the season even began.  Well, five months later, the tournament selections of 65 teams have been made, and four #1 seeds have been named by the NCAA committee.

Back in November, the Guru selected Kansas, Syracuse, Duke and Siena to make it to the Final 4.  Incredibly, all four teams are in the NCAA tourney field and three of the four are #1 seeds.  The Guru’s pre-season tourney selection, Syracuse , listed at 50-1, now stands at 6-1 to win the title.

An injury to Syracuse center, Orinze Onuaku, has put this wager in jeopardy, so the Guru will back it up with a $100 hypothetical wager on Kansas at 3-1 odds.  Let’s get right into the sports betting online.

Guru Earns Gold at Winter Olympics- March 8, 2010

Vancouver, , proved to be an historic stage for the 2010 Winter Olympics.  Despite the horrifying start to the Games, with the tragic death of the Georgian luger, the Games concluded with a memorable climax.  The Canadians defeated the in overtime to capture the gold medal.

In all, the , and were the big winners, and and showed well in the Games.  was the big loser, and promptly made changes in its Olympic administration shortly after the final curtain on the Games went down.

The Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk also won $200 on the Games, as he correctly picked the Gold Medal winners Evan Lysacek and Yu-Na-Kim in Men’s and Women’s Figure Skating respectively.  However, the Guru will be the first to tell you that he blew a chance at an amazing Olympic slate if he had made his online sportsbook selections in a different manner.

His Olympic sports bet included , the and in that order for total medal count.  If he had boxed these three choices, his online betting result would have been correct and his earnings would have been monstrous for the Olympics.  Sports betting is an ongoing learning experience, and the Sports Guru will pocket this experience to use to his benefit in sports betting down the road.

One of the great online betting events of the online sportsbook year, March Madness, starts next week.  The Sports Guru will publish his selections for the first and second round games in time for you to go to your favourite online sportsbook parlours and place your sports bets.

The Sports Guru made a couple of amazing future bets earlier in the year, which we shall review at this time.  Over five months ago, the Sports Guru selected Syracuse as the NCAA March Madness Tourney winner.  It should be noted that Syracuse was not considered by any expert to be a contender for the national title.  Yet, the University of Syracuse has skyrocketed over the course of the year to the #1 ranking in the polls as of today.  For those who followed the Guru’s lead and placed some pounds on Syracuse, there may be a pot of gold for you at the end of March Madness.

Also, the Guru made a futures bet on the New Jersey Nets basketball team.  The Guru placed a sports bet that the Nets would not win 19 games over the span of the regular season schedule.  The Nets record presently stands at 6-55 with 21 games remaining.

How are those bets working out for you??

For 2010, the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk stands at a hypothetical profit of $910.

Guru Makes Winter Olympic Selections- February 13, 2010

These facts are undisputed – Canada has never won a gold medal on its own soil when it has hosted the event.  During the Summer Olympics of 1976, held in Montreal and the Winter Olympics of 1988 held in Calgary, Canada failed to win a gold medal.  The fact weighed heavily on the minds and in the hearts of Canadians as the Olympic torch made its way over the past three months through Canada’s ten provinces and three territories.

Despite this gloomy past, Canada has done remarkably well in the previous two Winter Olympics, garnering 41 medals, including 14 of the gold variety.  So, why is there the doom and gloom concerning the Canadians’ upcoming performance in Vancouver?  Well, it is obvious that the pressure is self-imposed, particularly on the Canadian ice hockey squad, favoured to capture the gold medal.

Anyway, the time has come for us to put our theoretical monies where are mouths are.  So, here are my sports betting selections, at a theoretical $100 per wager, on this year’s Winter Olympics.  You still have time to place your sports bets with your preferred online sportsbook venue with current online betting lines. You can make a hefty profit through sports betting online.  We wish everyone the best of luck.  Enjoy the games!

Ice Hockey

Perhaps the most glamorous of all the Winter Olympic events, the gold medal will come down to a contest among these four countries:  Canada (10-11); Russia (5-2); Sweden (11-2); and the United states (15-2).  The easy selection is to take Canada, which will fulfill the dreams of all Canadians.  However, this is not the way to win money.  Russia is determined to capture the gold, and the odds substantiate the selection.  Take the Russian squad at 5-2.

Other selections are as follows:

·        Total Medal Winner – Germany (3-2)

·        Total Gold Medal Winner – Germany (3-2)

·        Second Place in Total Medals – Canada (5-2)

·        Third Place in Total Medals – United States (9-2)

·        Men’s Figure Skating Gold Medal – Evan Lysacek – (6-1)

·        Women’s Figure Skating Gold Medal – Yu-Na-Kim – (3-2)

The Guru stands for the year at a theoretical profit of $710 to date

Guru Wins a Bundle on the Super Bowl! - February 9, 2010

Playing with the heart of a champion and the guts of a riverboat gambler, the New Orleans Saints stole the thunder from the heavily favoured Indianapolis Colts and won the Super Bowl with a 31-17 victory.  The Colts were thought to be invincible, but the fearless play-calling of Saints Head Coach, Sean Payton, paved the way for the upset win.

The Colts had a 10-6 lead at halftime, and were expecting to receive the kickoff to start the third quarter.  However, Coach Payton called for an onside kick, which the Saints recovered, and later went in to score and take the lead.

The final nail in the coffin took place in the last three minutes of the game when The Saints Tracy Porter intercepted a Peyton Manning pass and scored.  While the Sports Guru lost $330 on the outcome of the game, he did remarkably well on his other picks.  We hope you took his advice on those picks and placed a sports bet or two on an online sportsbook with a sports betting line parlour.  Here are the results of the Super Bowl selections for the Sports Guru of Onlinegambling.co.uk:

Colt defensive star, Dwight Feeney, has hurt his ankle and is questionable.  This may play a big role in the New Orleans strategy to run the ball more often.  However, I am staying with my picks.

Guru’s Super Bowl Selections - January 26, 2010

Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached the most exiting time of the sports betting year – the Super Bowl.  It is estimated that there will be over $2 Billion wagered on the outcome of the Super Bowl football game for the Championship of the National Football League.  Last year, online sportsbook sites took in more action on the Super Bowl than the land-based casinos, and the difference in sports bets is expected to become even more exaggerated this year.

The game is scheduled for Sunday, February 7th in Miami, and the combatants are the Indianapolis Colts, Champions of the American Conference, and the New Orleans Saints, Champions of the National Conference.  The Colts advanced by defeating the New York Jets by a 30-17 score, while the Saints edged the Minnesota Vikings in overtime by a score of 31-28.

The early line has the Colts a 5 point favorite, and the combined total score is 56.  The line figures to rise over the next week.  So, if you like the Colts, wager your money before the line goes to 6 or above.  Peyton Manning is an all-time great quarterback, and you should look for him to add to his legacy with a convincing win over the Saints.

The Saints were less than spectacular in their overtime win at home against the Vikings.  Their receiver corps appeared awestruck, and they dropped many passes from Quarterback Drew Brees.  They can’t afford such mistakes against Manning & Co.

The sports betting online sites will be buzzing over the next ten days.  There will be a plethora of proposition bets and exotic wagers.  We’ll study them over the course of the week and present to you our best Super Bowl online betting choices next week.

For this week, however, we must make our Super Bowl selection, and it is the Indianapolis Colts at (-5) over the New Orleans Saints for $300.  Check out the best online betting sites, and place your wager on the Colts before the line moves up, and you have to give up more points.

At this point of the season, we stand strong with a +$430 for college football, and +$130 on pro football.   Check in next week to review our entire slate of Super Bowl wagers.

Guru’s Best Bets for Weekend of January 16-17, 2010

This week is Divisional Playoff weekend for the N.F.L. Football fans generally regard this weekend as the most exciting football weekend of the year. Sports betting enthusiasts look forward to this weekend because there is big money to be made on football teams that get “hot” at this time of year. The Guru begins this week’s theoretical sports betting card with a profit of $170 from prior NFL bets.

  • Arizona (+7) over New Orleans - Kurt Warner is a tremendous playoff quarterback, and the New Orleans Saints have not regained their mid-season form. Look for the Cardinals to upset the Saints outright by the score of 37-31.
  • Indianapolis (-6 ½) over Baltimore - These two teams battled royally earlier in the year, but this contest will be decided by the third quarter. Peyton Manning stars and the Indianapolis Colts will overpower the Baltimore Ravens by the score of 31-13.
  • Minnesota (-2 ½) over Dallas - While the Dallas Cowboys are the popular pick, let’s look at the facts. Dallas is not a solid road team, and Minnesota has a staunch defense. Bret Farve will turn back the hands of time with a memorable performance and will lead the Minnesota Vikings to a 28-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
  • New York (+8) over San Diego - The New York Jets will cover this spread with ease, and could very well upset the Chargers from San Diego. For the record, we predict the Chargers will win in overtime, 27-24, but don’t be surprised if the Jets advance to the AFC finals next week in Indianapolis.

We also will throw in a couple of additional bets you can find on the online sportsbook card:

  • Jets (+4) over San Diego at half-time.
  • Minnesota-Dallas over 23 points for a combined half time score.

The Guru remains alive on his futures bet on San Diego as the AFC winner at 15-1.

Good luck to all!
